After nearly two years of waiting, The Boys has released new episodes of its 4th season, along with new, crucial characters for the series’ plot.
Intensely exploring a political side that makes allusions to reality, The Boys doesn’t lose any of the freshness that characterizes the production inspired by Garth Ennis’s comics.
With new Supes and the growing threat of Homelander, The Boys Season 4 promises to be a mind-blowing journey.
Strong Anchor to Reality
Regarding the portrayal of American politics, the series returns more intense and precise. It addresses the polarization of American society, the dirty strategies of the far-right in media and social networks, and the madness of its leader—modeled after Donald Trump, as creator Eric Kripke has stated—dividing forces between Vought’s management and fatherhood.
Homelander is strengthening his power, with potential Vice President Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) as his puppet. New threats emerge, from bizarre conspiracy conventions to distorted spectacles orchestrated by Vought.
With the world on the brink, the Boys will have to overcome their internal issues if they want to take down the unstoppable Homelander. You can expect shocking twists, character growth under pressure, and the return of your favorite (and least favorite) Supes in this new season. The most political one yet.
New Characters
Already in the first episode, it’s possible to identify a lot about the essence of the characters: some change, others don’t change, and others promise to change but don’t.
The Boys
Chaos and lack of trust!
With a few months of life, Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) has been demoted from his position but remains vengeful and doing what it takes to stop Homelander. None of the Boys support his staying on the team anymore, except for Hughie (Jack Quaid). He, in turn, is starting to feel the impacts of paying more attention to the Boys than to his own family. Marvin “Mother’s Milk” is going through similar issues and is now leading the team.
Marvin’s leadership is more tied to the CIA, without as much autonomy as Butcher used to have. The first direct order he receives in the first episode is to eliminate Victoria Neuman—but this is much more complicated than it seems.
Starlight (Erin Moriarty) definitively joins the group and takes on a new role in her fight, now wishing to be known only as Annie. Karen Fukuhara and Tomer Capon portray Frenchie and the strong Kimiko.
Vought
On the opposing side, the corrupt Vought Corporation is also undergoing some changes. Besides having new members in the Seven, the always malevolent Homelander (Antony Starr) is now seeking conclusions about his own purposes, fatherhood, and the team he leads. A-Train (Jessie T. Usher), Deep (Chace Crawford), and Ashley Barrett (Colby Minifie) are back with their own problems.
New Characters
This season also features some exciting new additions. Actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan joins the cast as a possible new partner for Butcher. The Seven get two new members: Sage (Susan Heyward)—who ends up even becoming a personal helper for Homelander’s existential crisis problems—and Firecracker (Valorie Curry).
