Apple TV has officially renewed the critically praised thriller “Criminal Record” for a second season, with Academy Award winner Peter Capaldi (“Doctor Who,” “The Thick of It”) returning as Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty and Critics Choice Award nominee Cush Jumbo (“The Good Wife,” “The Good Fight”) reprising her role as Detective Sergeant June Lenker. Created by BAFTA nominee Paul Rutman (“Vera,” “Indian Summers”), the series once again dives into the high-stakes world of modern London policing as its two formidable detectives collide over a new, deeply challenging case.
Since its debut, Criminal Record has earned strong acclaim, described as a “cutting‑edge crime thriller” that is “shocking,” “unexpected,” and impossible to turn away from. The show quickly secured a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising Capaldi and Jumbo as “powerhouses” delivering “mesmerizing,” “captivating,” and “extraordinary” performances. Reviewers have emphasized that “watching them face off is as riveting as television gets.” The entire first season is now available to stream on Apple TV.
Season two picks up with June leading the investigation at the scene of a political rally disrupted by far‑right counter-protesters. The confrontation turns deadly, leaving a young man killed and June overwhelmed with guilt, determined to track down the perpetrator. Her best chance for answers may lie with Daniel—now deeply embedded in the murky realm of police intelligence. But his help comes with strings attached, forcing June into a dangerous pact as the stakes escalate.
Produced in London, Criminal Record is a collaboration between Tod Productions and STV Studios for Apple TV+. BAFTA Scotland Award winner Elaine Collins (“Shetland,” “Vera”) returns as executive producer for season two, joined by Chris Sussman (“Trying,” “Good Omens”), alongside Rutman, Capaldi, and Jumbo.
