The Equalizer 3 takes Robert McCall on another mission filled with action, violence, and his determination to protect innocent people. Starring Denzel Washington, the third movie in the franchise follows the character during a different stage of his life, far from the United States and trying to find some peace after years of confronting dangerous criminals.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the movie also stars Dakota Fanning, Eugenio Mastrandrea, and David Denman.
Available to stream on Netflix.
What is The Equalizer 3 about?
After leaving behind his former life as a government assassin, Robert McCall continues to deal with the consequences of his past. This time, he finds a fresh start in southern Italy, where he begins to develop a special connection with the residents of a small town.
However, the peaceful atmosphere does not last long. McCall discovers that his new friends are living under the threat of members of the local organized crime network. As the violence escalates, he realizes he cannot simply ignore what is happening.
Because of this, McCall returns to action and decides to confront the criminals responsible for spreading fear throughout the region.
Robert McCall finds a new reason to fight
One of the most interesting aspects of The Equalizer 3 is the personal journey Robert McCall experiences. Instead of simply hunting criminals, he is also trying to understand how to move forward and find a place where he can truly feel at home.
His growing relationship with the people of the Italian town gives him another reason to fight. Therefore, his battle against the local mafia becomes much more personal.
At the same time, the movie keeps the elements that define the franchise, including intense confrontations, carefully planned strategies, and McCall’s relentless attitude toward anyone who threatens innocent people.
Denzel Washington returns as Robert McCall
Denzel Washington once again plays Robert McCall and remains at the center of the story. This time, the character appears more experienced, reflective, and aware of the consequences of the choices he has made throughout his life.
Dakota Fanning plays Emma Collins, while Eugenio Mastrandrea appears as Gio Bonucci. David Denman, Gaia Scodellaro, Remo Girone, and Andrea Scarduzio are also part of the cast.
Dakota Fanning’s appearance is also notable because it reunites her with Denzel Washington years after they worked together in Man on Fire.
Italy gives the franchise a different atmosphere
The change of setting gives the third movie a distinct identity. Much of the story takes place in southern Italy, where peaceful landscapes create a strong contrast with the violent events surrounding McCall.
The setting also reinforces his desire to build a different life. However, when organized crime begins threatening the people around him, that peaceful atmosphere quickly disappears.
As a result, the movie combines quieter and more reflective moments with suspense and intense action sequences.
Why watch The Equalizer 3?
Anyone who followed the previous movies will find a direct continuation of Robert McCall’s story. In addition to the action scenes the franchise is known for, the third installment gives more attention to the protagonist’s personal side.
Viewers who enjoy stories involving revenge, organized crime, and highly skilled characters facing dangerous enemies may also find plenty to enjoy.
The Equalizer 3 combines action, suspense, and drama while exploring a version of Robert McCall who begins to question where he truly belongs after spending so many years surrounded by violence.

The final chapter of Robert McCall
The Equalizer 3 works as the conclusion to this stage of Robert McCall’s journey.
After spending much of the franchise protecting strangers and pursuing justice, McCall finally finds people and a place he wants to defend for much more personal reasons.
Because of that, his final battle carries a different emotional weight and helps bring the trilogy starring Denzel Washington to a satisfying conclusion.
