Cathedrals is available to stream on Prime Video, offering an intriguing experience for fans of suspense, drama, and crime investigations. The Chilean series follows a family haunted by a brutal murder that remains unsolved for three decades. However, the return of a woman determined to uncover the past reveals secrets that could change everyone’s lives.
With an intense storyline, complex characters, and unexpected revelations, Cathedrals explores the consequences of silence, guilt, and complicated family relationships. Additionally, the production combines crime mystery and psychological drama, creating a story that questions how far people will go to protect their secrets.
What Is Cathedrals About?
The story of Cathedrals begins in Santiago, Chile, in 1986, when Ana Sardá, a 17-year-old girl, is found dead under extremely violent circumstances. The crime devastates her deeply religious family and triggers an investigation that fails to identify those responsible.
Due to problems with the original police investigation, the murder remains unsolved for 30 years. Meanwhile, the family members attempt to move forward with their lives, although memories of the tragedy continue to haunt them.
Everything changes in 2016 when Lía, Ana’s sister, returns from Europe to say goodbye to her dying father. Her arrival brings back painful memories and strengthens her determination to discover what really happened to the young girl.
Determined to find answers, Lía decides to reopen the investigation. She contacts people connected to the original case and begins gathering information that could reveal events hidden for decades.
As new clues emerge, the protagonist discovers that the murder may be connected to a forbidden romance and deeply disturbing family secrets.
As a result, Cathedrals presents an investigation filled with emotional conflicts, painful revelations, and questions about faith, morality, and justice.
Cathedrals Cast and Characters
The Cathedrals cast features recognized actors from Latin American television and cinema, helping create an intense and emotionally engaging story.
Amparo Noguera is part of the main cast, bringing her experience in dramatic productions to a story shaped by family conflicts and traumatic events.
Alfredo Castro also appears in the series, which explores characters involved in complicated relationships and decisions that could completely change the direction of the investigation.
Ignacia Baeza joins the featured cast, contributing to the development of personal struggles and the secrets surrounding the Sardá family.
The series also features Marcelo Alonso, Paulina García, Paula Luchsinger, and Muriel Santa Ana, alongside other performers who help bring the story to life.
Throughout the episodes, the characters offer different perspectives on past events. Consequently, every new revelation adds another important piece to the central mystery.
What Makes Cathedrals Different?
One of the biggest highlights of Cathedrals is how the series combines a criminal investigation with family drama. Rather than focusing exclusively on finding the person responsible for a murder, the story examines how tragedy can affect several generations.
Additionally, the series uses two different timelines to develop its narrative. Events from 1986 help explain the origins of the crime, while the investigation in 2016 reveals information that remained hidden for decades.
Another important element is the influence of religion on the characters’ lives. Family beliefs shape their decisions, behavior, and relationships, creating conflicts that extend beyond the criminal investigation.
The dark atmosphere also adds to the suspense. As Lía gets closer to the truth, new discoveries challenge the versions of events presented by her own relatives.
Ultimately, Cathedrals transforms a seemingly forgotten crime into a story about guilt, silence, justice, and the consequences of hiding the truth.
How Many Episodes Does Cathedrals Have?
Cathedrals features six episodes in its first season, presenting an investigation that unfolds across different periods.
The production premiered in September 2026 and follows Lía’s return to her hometown, her attempt to reopen the case, and the discoveries that emerge during her investigation.
Throughout the episodes, the narrative introduces new clues and deepens the conflicts between the characters. Furthermore, revelations about the past help explain the circumstances surrounding Ana Sardá’s death.
With episodes running approximately 40 minutes each, the series offers a focused story, making it a great choice for viewers who enjoy mysteries developed over a limited number of episodes.
Who Should Watch Cathedrals?
Cathedrals is an excellent choice for viewers who enjoy psychological thrillers, crime investigations, and family stories filled with secrets.
The production may also appeal to audiences who prefer darker narratives, where characters must confront traumatic events and difficult decisions.
Additionally, viewers who appreciate stories told across different timelines will find an engaging mystery that connects the past with the present.
However, the series explores sensitive themes and violent situations. Therefore, it is better suited for mature audiences looking for intense productions with emotional conflicts and complex mysteries.
