The Little Mermaid gets a premiere date on Disney Plus

The live-action The Little Mermaid earned $566 million at the box office during its theatrical run. The long finally has premiere on Disney + scheduled for the 6th of September.

The Little Mermaid is yet another live-action adaptation or re-make of a Disney classic. This new version of the princess of the seas whcih hit theaters in May of this year will now hit the Disney+ catalog on September 6th. We confirmed the information on the official social networks of the platform.

Directed by Rob Marshall, the film earned $566 million at the box office during its theatrical run. The Little Mermaid earned a 67% approval rating among critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Already among the public, the film yielded 94% approval on Rotten Tomatoes and received a 7.2 on IMDb.

Exclusive Content from The Little Mermaid

Starting September 6th, subscribers will finally be able to watch the live action from the comfort of their homes. In addition, they will have access to exclusive content, an interpretation of the song “Impossible Child” by Javier Bardem (King Triton).

In this new version, the curious mermaid Ariel wants to know the human world, against the desire of her father, King Triton. In the midst of her adventures on the surface, she meets a prince. After saving her life and falling in love with him, Ariel embarks on a journey of self-discovery to win Prince Eric’s heart. To do so, she makes a pact with the feared sea witch, Ursula, putting her life – and her father’s crown – in danger.

Cast

The cast consists of Halle Bailey as Ariel, alongside Melissa McCarthy and Jonah Hauer-King as Ursula and Prince Eric. The rest of the cast is formed by Javier Bardem as King Triton, Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina, while Jacob Tremblay, Awkwafina and Daveed Diggs voice Flounder, Scuttle and Sebastian.

Direction

Rob Marshall was responsible for directing The Little Mermaid. Alan Menken, responsible for composing the animation’s original soundtrack, was responsible, along with Lin-Manuel Miranda (Encanto, Moana), for the adaptation’s soundtrack.
